Nodeul Isle Fish Market – Seoul, South Korea
Situated at the South side of Nodeul Island the fish market’s agenda includes an auction arena, fish shops, stalls and restaurants as well as several fishing/view points. The different programmatic operations are split into three levels according to the island’s landscape. The programmatic configuration allows visitors to experience fishing from three different ‘perspectives’: a retail level, a wholesale level and a leisure level.
The modular structure housing the programmatic functions is divided into two levels: the external layer’s magnitude varies according to the internal space required but also to generate multiple levels where the programme will be split. The internal layer is the host of the programme as well as the circulation platforms that carry visitors around. The two elements collectively assist in creating points of visual transition, where focus shifts from the fish market to potential vistas to the river and the city.
